604 was an impressive electro-pop fest but Ladytron have managed to improve on it. Light & Magic is a more diverse album using even more different bleeps and beats. While they have a bit of a nostalgic sound to them, one cannot help but picture the future when listening to Ladytron. It’s not as immediate as house music or any of the DJ culture that’s going on. This group is more interested in making cohesive tracks that don’t need the reworking that a lot of DJ stuff does. Tracks like “Cracked LCD are fine on their own. The vocals are electrified through whatever means that Ladytron uses but they fit right into the whole scheme. Some of the tracks are surprisingly warm considering their electronic nature. “Evil could be a radio hit quite easily (or fit into a car commercial).Ladytron is a group that is still looking to the future to make music for today.

This is Ladytron's standout album for sure. Clean, crisp sound and vocals are consistent throughout, with particularly smooth tracks Seventeen and Blue Jeans. Nuhorizons, in keyboardist/singer Mira Aroyo's native Bulgarian, presents an interesting change as the vocals are sharper and more staccato than on the other tracks.
If you've heard of Ladytron and you'd like to give them a try, take Light & Magic for a spin.
