Clutch has created their career highlight with Pure Rock Fury. This is the best thing that the band has ever done. After the mediocre effort, The Elephant Riders (and it really wasn't that bad), Clutch had taken some time to themselves to figure out what they wanted. Now sporting yet another new label (they're on Atlantic this time around) it sounds like they have all they could ever want because this is some of the best groove rock to ever surface. Neil Fallon and his crew have tightened up a bit since 98's Elephant Riders to provide us, the listeners, with even more funky metal. Pure Rock Fury is going to demand a toke to go along with and loads of head nodding. Clutch never really gives you a rest here, which is very similar to their live show (which I was lucky enough to catch earlier this year with C.O.C.). The percussion reigns supreme with all sorts of groovy rhythms to keep the foot tapping and keep you from getting bored. The overall feel of Pure Rock Fury is not unlike a classic Sabbath album. Boredom is non-existent here. The band has come a long way since its inception in 1993 and Neil himself has grown into quite a lyricist as well as fine vocalist. This is their finest moment to date. Let's hope there is a lot to come. The CD also comes with HyperCD capabilities that allow you to see exclusive footage on their website.
