Canyon Creep is a sludge rock band (stoner rock for the rest of you) that has been around in some incarnation or another since1996. Finally getting off their Asses, the guys decided to grab local San Franciscan Bill Anderson (Mr. Bungle, Melvins) to produce a full-length album. That’s just what they did with Hijack The World. They have a growler for a lead vocalist that really sings balls-out. His style switches from Monster Magnet to that of Nashville Pussy. Guitar riffs are crunchy as hell and I think that has a lot to do with the production by Mr. Anderson. The songs really get motoring like on my favorite track “Yreka. They slow down a little on the last track “Give Me Some and show that they can have some fun and switch right back to playing crushing stoner rock. It’s got a bit of a “Low Rider feel to it. My speakers could just barely hold back from bursting on the title track. Hijack the World is a great debut album and if you end up in the SF area, try to check out a live show.
