This is one of the most syropy smooth hip-hop/spoken word albums I have heard. Saul Williams was close but how can you compare that to Ursula Rucker’s sexy and beautiful voice. I literally listened to this album 5 times before I could even start writing about it. You may have already heard Ursula with her contributions to 4-Hero, King Britt, The Silent Poets, Josh Wink, Bahamadia, and she always closes out the Roots albums. This is one fine resume to be packing around. Supa Sista really pushes the boundaries of where lyrical poetry has never been before. You could call this soul music or hip-hop. You could call it electronica or pop but the premise here is to get Ursula’s fabulous wordsmithing out forefront. There are a few featured artists on Supa Sista but the highlight is not these artists, it is Ursula Rucker. Her voice is a powerful tool. While maintaining a sexy, sultry vocal style she still spits out words like razorblades. Listen up because Ursula has something to say. And the beats and samples fit in superbly.
