Johnny Cash is an icon in American music. Not just country but pretty much ever genre of music looks up and respects the man in black. What better way to pay your respects than with a star studded tribute album. Kindred Spirits is a great document showing just how diverse a crowd that Johnny touched. While most of the artists are country, there is Bob Dylan (a very heartfelt version of "Train of Love") and Bruce Springsteen ("Give My Love to Rose") to represent the singer/songwriter masses. There is Keb' Mo' ("Folsom Prison Blues") representing the blues side of things. Rosanne Cash ("I Still Miss Someone") is here to represent the strong family bond that Johnny had. Little Richard (a rollicking "Train of Love") is also here representing whatever it is that he represents. Other mentionable's are Dwight Yoakam's "Understand Your Man", Travis Tritt's "I Walk the Line", Steve Earle's "Hardin Wouldn't Run", Mary Chapin Carpenter, Sheryl Crow & Emmylou Harris lending their beautiful voices to "Flesh and Blood", and my favorite track on Kindred Spirits, Charlie Robson doing a fine version of "Don't Take Your Guns To Town".
