We all know the importance of Nebraska as a singer / songwriter milestone and many such artists resort to this album over and over for inspiration. Some of these particular artists get a chance to pay tribute to the fine album here on this out of sorts Sub Pop release. Normally Sub Pop doesn't really dive into the realm of Americana but in this case most of the artists included, aside from a few, are great established independent artists. The album opens up with the biggest surprise, Chrissie Hynde performing 'Nebraska'. She is obviously working on doing some country herself as the vocals displayed on here are great country style. Hank III makes an appearance as does Johnny Cash and Raul Malo of the Mavericks. Another surprise for me was the Deana Carter Track "State Trooper". She fits in very nice with all the rest of these indie artists. Also on the album are Aimee Mann, Los Lobos, Dar Williams, Ani Difranco and a few others. Bruce should be proud.
