In order for a band to spawn their own genre name must mean a band is pretty damn good at what they do as well as very unique. Uncle Tupelo managed to do that while keeping fairly underground. Far from a household name but the band who's album No Depression would send waves of talk through the roots rock community of America. After their demise they created another 2 great bands; Son Volt and Wilco. No Depression was the bands first album and with it they took the honesty and rawness of country music and blended it with the feirocity of punk. Not afraid to use distortion and loud rock drums. Basically taking what Gram Parsons had started and taking it to the next level. They had nothing to lose and so they pushed the boundaries of country music wide open and allowed outsiders in. With both great songwriters Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy contributing they were bound for success. Jay provided the more traditional side while Jeff injected a little more energy into his tracks. No Depression belongs in every collection.
