What started out as a tax write-off for a journalist has actually turned into something quite interesting. Joel Stewart gathered up a bunch of his friends including Lorrie Matheson, Brian Boss, Greg Johnston, Stew Kirkwood, Neil MacDonald, Lyle Molzan and Trish Wight. Who would have guessed how this music fan and bedroom musician’s project would work out? It actually ended up being a credible roots-influenced album full of well-written stories and quite a diverse collection of songs. The album starts out with a swaggering track called “Fla that showcases what you are to expect with Stewart’s quite interesting voice. One of my favorite tracks on Underworld is the ballad “Song ‘Bout A Lie, which sounds very heartfelt and honest. Surround yourself with good musicians and there is no doubt that you will end up with a good album. Joel Stewart is a good songwriter and a very good singer with a bit of a twang.
