Virgil Shaw is at it again; weaving his distorted almost tuneless voice around some great Americana influenced pop songs. Sure his voice may be close to tuneless but Virgil is a man with heart and soul. Something you don’t find in music that often. Shaw’s music is all about story telling in the way that Mark Eitzel or Tom Waits might do it. His songs are just cause to go out and find Still Falling but the musicians that Virgil has rounded up for this album are amazing. Mark Eitzel, Danny Heifetz, Kevin Ink, Marc Capelle, Jeff Palmer, Atom Ellis and more join him in creating what could arguably be considered his finest moment. His Dieselhed days are long behind him as he weaves tales of philosophy, heartbreak, and loneliness into fantastic songs. His voice is raw but extremely listenable. Think Giant Sand with a young Tom Waits singing. Yup, it is really impressive and the songwriting is top notch. Grandaddy likes him so why don’t you?
