Shaver - The Earth Rolls On
Billy Joe Shaver has seen some hard times lately. He had wrote the lyrics “The earth rolls on / Even though your gone for his lifelong love Brenda when she passed away in 1999. Unfortunately, the lyrics also rang true for his son Eddy who died unexpectedly on New Years Eve 2000. Billy Joe and Eddy were a very close father and son and when you put that combination into a musical relationship you end up with a quality songwriting team. Billy Joe states in his bio that Eddy had been writing some songs that were better than what even Billy Joe could do. Eddy was one of those people taken long before they are supposed to go. Ray Kennedy (partners with Steve Earle and Twang Trust) produced the album. He was also behind the album Electric Shaver. Ray ended up using some very old-fashioned techniques that come out sounding like they were meant for Billy Joe. You will also hear Eddy all over this album as it was recorded before he passed away. His guitar playing is better than ever. The track “Blood is Thicker Than Water is a duet with both Eddy and Billy Joe and is the only ever recorded duet in the Shaver history. The Earth Rolls On is a fine album and a testament to the legacy of Eddy Shaver.
