The Rev is back for yet another round and again, I think Mr. Jim Heath (aka Reverend Horton Heat) has a refound ambition in songwriting. It started with 2000’s Spend A Night In A Box and has now carried on to his new album, Lucky 7. The albums rocks, it rolls, it lopes, it sways, but most of all it’s rockabilly at it’s best. After a jaded relationship with Interscope I think Jim feels like he has been freed and allowed a return to form. Listen to the complete instrumental entitled “Duel at eh Two O’Clock Bell and you can here that the Reverend is in fine guitar form. On “Ain’t Gonna Happen he sounds like a crazed Henry Rollins. It like life has been brought back to the group as a whole and especially the Reverend himself. Reverend Horton Heat has turned into the epitome of Rockabilly and there really is no second best to this strong of an album. The best thing about Jim is his love for classic cars and his insistence on writing about them (see “Suicide Doors and “Galaxie 500).
