Jazzanova - In Between
This album has been getting rave reviews lately. That's why I went all over the city trying to track down a copy. I finally found In Between at Indigo books of all places. I was very impressed with the thick cardboard package that it came in. Jazzanova have been around for a few years but now they are finally getting some recognition with a full-length album finally completed. It is sort of like when Kruder & Dorfmeister hit the scene back in 95. Everybody was clambering to get anything that the band had done. Now it's Jazzanova's turn. DJ's do anything to get Jazzanova material and it's paying off on both parties parts. Jazzanova actually took (rumoured) approximately 5 years to come up with their proper debut. You can tell that these guys had a lot on their minds though because In Between goes on forever. This is a good thing because it may be a while before the group decides to (or has the time to) do another full-length with all their remix projects they get asked to do. There are loads of guest artists on the album. Most of them don't really deserve mentioning here due to their obscurity except for beautiful beat poetress Ursula Rucker who can be heard on "Keep Falling". If you can track this album down it is not just eye candy, it's a hell of a funky electronica album that will stand up to the test of time. Future Jazz now!
