After Stabbing Westward left (or were told to leave) Columbia after 3 great albums, the band had its freedom back. I have always had a soft spot for Stabbing Westward and am excited at what I hear on their new self-titled album out on Koch records. They seem to have lost the industrial Nine Inch Nails sounds and have resorted to more of a melodic Catherine Wheel style. They have stripped away all the walls of guitar that was so prominent on all their Columbia records and focused on good songwriting. What is left after you take away all the walls of guitars? Accessible songs are what’s left. This album is sure to garner at least some radio play with tracks like "So Far Away" and "Breathe You In". So those of you who are looking for another Whither, Blister and Burn will have to look elsewhere. Stabbing Westward are on to bigger and better things.
