Soul Hooligan have a bit of a unique sound. Their sound could even fit into the electronica category if it didn’t have so much soul involved. Band member Austin has done his share of remix projects because he would “Rather tweak knobs for house acts than take a 9-5 job�. Music Like Dirt is even more diverse than a Beck album with very slow and emotional songs like “Who’s To Say� but take a track like “Algebra� (the single they are trying to get radio to pick up). It is almost straight ahead hip-hop. I would have chosen a track like “Addicted� instead that is instantly catchy with it’s Brit-pop feel to it fed through a sampler. The album is a very mature offering for such a youthful band from London, England. People may feel that Soul Hooligan needs to pick a path and stick to it but I say that if they can do this amount of switching up within one album then all the power to them. It’s all good.
