Doug Cox is a roots-styled musician that called Vancouver Island home. He plays both the slide guitar and the dobro to an extent of a master. You will find Doug at many folk festivals all over the continent. His music is very inspirational and appeals to a wide range of people. It has folk elements in it as well as blues and country. He even dives into a bit of a new age feel in the relaxing rendition of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Lenny. Think more of a Bill Frisell. Doug is regarded amongst his peers as a master musician and an amazing songwriter. Stay Lazy starts out with a duet with friend Amos Garrett called “Life is so peculiar. Also, Ellen McIlwaine makes an appearance on “I Like To Slide. Other than that, it’s Doug all the way through the album. He does a great instrumental version of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps and another with Neil Young’s “After The Goldrush. Cox manages to do an African styled “Black Eyed Susie that ends up being one of the albums highlights. This is a great album that showcases a very well rounded songwriter. Check Doug out if he comes to your neck of the woods.
