This set has some great songwriting. The music here is strong with a jangly kind of retro guitar sound. The accessible form of pop rock this outfit practices is quite cool. There are elements of classic rock, bits of country and plenty of modern pop rock in the mix. There are even moments that lean towards progressive rock. While the guitar really is the driving factor, there is plenty of other things adding to the mix. For one thing, the bass guitar is pretty prominent a lot of the time.

The main problem on the set is the vocals. It’s not that the singing is bad or off-key in any way, though. In fact, the vocal performances themselves are generally very good. The problem is, someone apparently decided to use some kind of processing, like auto-tune on a lot of the vocals.. I’m not saying it’s definitely autotune, but it certainly has a similar effect at times. It’s obvious that it was used for effect rather than to help the singer achieve notes he couldn’t reach or to pull him on key. The problem is, it makes it feel like something that you’d hear on some Disney Channel television show about a rock band at times. These guys have enough talent that they don’t need such gimmicky things. It generally cheapens the disc and is certain to make it seem dated in no time because that type of sound is destined to die out soon.

These guys are a great pop rock band who write and perform some awesome music. The disc is entertaining despite the use of those effects on the vocals. It should be mentioned that those effects aren’t present on all the songs. It’s just so annoying when they do show up that it drops the quality of the set. That’s really a shame because this is very strong otherwise. They deserve better because they are a strong and versatile band.
