Stay self-promotes as a space rock band. That label doesn’t seem especially accurate. Sure, the Barcelona based group does have some moments that fall into space rock, but they move beyond that point, though. Perhaps a more accurate description would be psychedelic, because that sound is more consistent with them.
From the opening cut “The Change is Coming” with it’s indie garage band psychedelic sound that’s rather reminiscent of early Pink Floyd to the closing “I Don’t See Myself” with its noisy organ infused sound and distorted vocals, nearly ever moment of this set qualifies as psychedelic rock. It should be noted that the second song mentioned even has a cool instrumental movement that feels a lot like something The Doors might have done.
Other musical textures are presented on this journey. For instance, “Yellow Rainbows” has more of that early Pink Floyd sound, but also the jangly guitar sounds of The Byrds and an almost Beatles-like pop vibe. “All I Know” definitely has a lot more of that Byrds sound as does “Time Machine.” Everything includes some country music textures in its folky arrangement. “You Got Me Going” merges a more modern rock sound with psychedelia. “In the Rain” feels more like something from the early period of the Rolling Stones merged with Pink Floyd.
Looking for one seemingly constant reference on the set would probably find themselves drawn to the early Syd Barrett period of Pink Floyd. Not everything here feels like that, but that sound seems to show up at least a little on every song. The truth is, these guys do a great job of drawing from a lot of classic psychedelic sounds to create something that is fresh and modern while still feeling as if it could have come from the late 1960s. Space rock? I’m not convinced. Great psychedelic rock that never feels stale or repetitive? Definitely.

If you love Oasis, The Verve, or Kasabian, then you will love the
4-member Indie Psych Pop band Stay from Barcelona who last month
released their new LP The Fourth Dimension for the world to hear.
The Group formed in 2001 and that same year released 2 demos, and they
are now on their 4th album release. With inspirations from The Who,
Neil Young and The Stone Roses, The band took inspirations from within
and produced another hit record. This 10 track LP has a very unique
sound, but delivers just as they have in the past. The songs call for
very easy listening, and definitely take you back to the ballad of an
80s movie. This album in comparison to the last 3 is more on a
personal level. Emotions are the main focus of the lyrics, and the
sounds are not as upbeat, but still deliver the unique Stay sound.
With the release of the album, the band also released a statement,
This is our reason to live. The band is currently on tour overseas
to promote the new album. The album starts off with their song The
Change Is Coming and change is exactly what they brought to the new
album. I definitely recommend giving Stay a listen and grabbing
their new album, you are definitely in for a treat!
