Snowdogs - Deep Cuts, Fast Remedies
I have a confession to make, the first Snowdogs slipped by me. Yup, Victory Records was kind enough to send a copy my way but I neglected it. I really think it was the name and nothing else. I hadn’t heard anything negative (or anything at all for that matter) about the Snowdogs but it just sat and sat. If I looked really hard I might find it in my neglected pile. Then along comes their sophomore album. Do I open the unfortunately named bands second album for Victory Records? I know the guys in Snowdogs are Finnish and they probably have been fortunate enough to avoid the movie by the same title staring Cuba Gooding Jr. but Victory might have mentioned this fact to them. The thing is, I threw this album on and was quite impressed by their arena rock-sized riffs and catchy vocals. Victory Records is not consistent when it comes to genres so you can’t have any preconceptions about any of their releases. Snowdogs have created a very diverse album full of radio ready hard rock. The songs are stupidly catchy and guitars are larger than life. That being said, they still attempt a cover of “Boy In The Bubble, which almost works. A song as familiar as a Paul Simon track is a really hard one to cover (unless you are Me First and the Gimme Gimmes). Other than that one flaw, I have to give a nod to the Snowdogs for their Deep Cuts, Fast Remedies album. If people can get over their name then they just might go somewhere.
