This Country Gentlemen is a re-issue of a 1963 album called On The Road which was originally released by Folkways Records. It is basically excerpts from two live shows in 1962-63. This re-issue includes some recently discovered archives of more of the Country Gentlemen live. If you have never heard of the Country Gentlemen (as I had never) you should be aware that they were one of the most prolific Bluegrass bands ever. They would take Bluegrass to audiences that had never witnessed such fine musicianship. Because the Country Gentlemen had such amazing vocal abilities as well as virtuoso instrumentals, they were able to bring a new life to Bluegrass and appealed to folk and soft rock fans. One of their most famous tracks was “The Long Black Veil� which was also a hit for Lefty Frizzell. On The Road brings all of their other hits together in a live setting where the Country Gentlemen sounded best. You can tell that the group loved to play live and had fun wherever their audience was or who was in it.
