This is EP is the first release for Guy Fox and having not heard them before, I really enjoyed it.  The music is soft yet poppy at the same time has that 80s yacht rock vibe to it.  Makes you wanna dress up and hop on a buddy's boat with champagne and fine women and just party the night away.  On the flip side, I find that this type of music could even be played as background music during dinner as well.  With its full array of trumpets, trombones, percussion, and deep bass lines Guy Fox can almost seem more contemporary rock or even a little jazz rock; in all honesty though, I find it a well-balance mix of it all to create great sounding music.

I'm heavily into deep bass tones and the title track "Mr. Man" has a great upbeat bass beat to it as well as some great guitar solos.  The band does a really good here of making their 70's style sound real prevalent; makes you think of a room filled with black lights, posters, and heavy smoke.  Not that I'm suggesting anything, but you do the math.  I digress.  The other track on this EP that sticks out is "Plainview" which highlights that contemporary rock sound and really embraces that yacht rock era of the late 70's.  The other thing to mention here is the use of the brass instruments, which as anyone who listens to various genres knows, is one way to help "spruce" up a song and provide that lift to the beat; combining this with the bass & guitar rifts and you have one unique sound that is very catchy.  I look forward to hearing more from this San Francisco group very soon; their EP releases on October 16, 2012 and I highly recommend you check it out!
