This week brings us yet another interesting rock band from Canada. Sixty Stories is a female fronted band (Jo Snyder takes on the vocal and guitar duties) that has been around now for a couple of years. While keeping one foot in the punk world Sixty Stories digs in to the indie rock world quite nicely. You may remember a review last year on a split with Sixty Stories and a band called Painted Thin. Painted Thin was just an earlier incarnation of this band. Ian Blurton (Blurtonia, Change Of Heart) took these younguns’ into the studio to record their debut full-length for Winnipeg’s Smallman Records. It’s not an album that will blow you away. It’s more of an album that you end up with respect for a band. These three musicians (rounded out by Paul Furgale – Drums and Sarah Sangster – Bass) manage to make a very large sound with a lot of charisma. Sixty Stories lyrics are very well written and thought out. No emo here, that’s for sure. Hopefully Anthem Red will bring these guys some recognition.
