This album screams out for an alternative title since it's supposed to be part of a trilogy. I'd prefer Uno, Por Favor. I'd like to hear how all of this would have played out if Green Day had made just one album.
What we have is an uneven album, but still there are some good tracks here. "Wild One" is the most successful. "Makeout Party" isn't far behind, since this is the entry where the band really rocks. It would make a good addition to a soundtrack for a romantic comedy (no Broadway production, please.).
A song like "Stray Heart," is one where better is expected from these guys. It sounds like a second rate version of Iggy Pop. Still even on a so-so cut Billy Joe Armstrong can pull off a good guitar riff.
The band sounds better on "Wow! That's Loud," which recalls the Yardbirds. Maybe the future direction of the band could turn them into a Led Zeppelin. or maybe they're just playing out the string.
"Ashley" works, and so does "Amy." The latter song recreates a 50s sound. It takes more than one listen for some of these songs to start to draw me in.
The "Lazy Bones" in me wishes they could win me over quicker.
