Jimmie Dale Gilmore's first album since leaving his major label deal with Elektra (5 years ago) is suprisingly scarce of original material. Only 3 tracks, including the bonus track DFW, are written by Gilmore himself. The rest of the tracks are like a hand-picked mixture of the best of what country has to offer, including Greatful Deads "Ripple", Townes Van Zandt's "No Lonesome Tune", and John Hiatt's "Your Love is My Rest". Not saying that this isn't a fantistic album, it's hard to go wrong with having friends like Emmylou Harris, Julie and Buddy Miller, and Victoria Williams helping out, you would just think that he would have had a lot of time to write some material. Jimmie is always a treat to listen to though with his haunting dusty voice.
