Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound and image. There's something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever "it" is - they all seem to have "it".
Today I spun to the latest CD from DC'ss own songwriter Brendan Dane or AFILIC entitled Dub in the District (2012). Venturing to his website and reading the bio I get the impression this is one songwriter that is extremely passionate about the songwriting craft. From start to finish "Dub in the District" is a very melodic genius type of release. It has an Alternative-Chill-Dub-Theatrical quality to it but should not to be underestimated or easily pinned down. It also dabbles in what I would call Psychedelic Reggae Rock with a techno side to it as well. Trust me when I say this artist goes a bit deeper than the next ambient independent artists out there. Any fans of any of these musical styles will enjoy this latest release from Dane. It's clearly marketed for those who like a composer with a mystique of say a Beck, The B Foundation, or even Tomorrows Bad Seeds. I get the impression Dane is just rolling with what he knows as a composer/songwriter within each one of these pieces. In other words he hits the mark remarkably well by just being who he is. Favorite track is (Looking Back). Within each one of these songs Dane bares his soul and delivers his best musical mojo. ALIFIC is clearly is a force to be reckoned. The overall vibe of the production has me yearning to go on vacation. Above all it's highly original, colorful, and melodically entertaining.
Brendan Dane of ALIFIC is a fascinating artist - end of subject. Like I said most famous artists out there have "it" I'm not so sure what it but Brendan Dane of ALIFIC has whatever "it" may be.
