Jill Scott, the lady who told her man's jealous ex to vacate the premises before bows were thrown on "Gettin in the Way" from her brilliant debut album comes back into the musical fray this week with a remix album, Crates: Remix Fundamentals Vol 1. Seemingly timed to drop perfectly by her first indie label, Hidden Beach Records, when people are ready to party, clothes are getting skimpy to beat the heat and BBQ smells permeate the air, this album serves as the ideal summer/new workout soundtrack. Fitting in with the party atmosphere that she sets at her live summer block party shows, you know she gets down.

"Who Is Jill Scott" this time? She's a house music poetess and African tribal queen on remixes of classic songs from all three (Who is Jill Scott, Beautifully Human and The Real Thing) volume albums. The tracks on the house tip such as "Bedda At Home"-The Rivera Mix  and "Can't Explain"- The Ca$e Boogie Remix remind me of the great 80's and 90's house classics like Jungle Brothers' "I'll House You", Marshall Jefferson's "Move Your Body" and Civiles and Cole's "A Deeper Love".  The producers dug in the crates and pulled out gold.

It's rare that remixes can stand on their own compared to the originals but there are
additional tribal and ocean breeze rhythm charmers that make you want to grab a Chikere  and jam on "Golden"- The B-Sharp Afro Centric Mix, "Brotha"- The Inferno Mix plus the highlight, DJ Jazzy Jeff's Redux stripped version of " A Long Walk". I got a "spring summer feeling" this will be in my musical collection for years to come.
