Mystic - Cuts For Luck and Scars For Freedom
Mystic is a hip-hop soul sista who is really making a name for herself with her latest album, Cuts For Luck and Scars for Freedom. She comes to us by way of the Bay Area in California and has a very unique sound to her rapping. Her style could be considered poetry the way she floats her raps into your conscience. She raps about some pretty heavy topics but Mystic is able to do it with style. Take for instance the ready for radio track, “Neptune’s Jewels in which Mystic pledges her love to her soul brother. “Dave Ghetto is a smooth soul track with (I think) the Hieroglyphics helping out. “Forever and A Day could easily be on an Erika Badu album. Cuts shows that Mystic is a totally multitalented musician and songwriter delving deep into hard rap and maintains the ability to craft some of the best soul. This is an essential female rap album to put beside Lauryn Hill and Little Kim.
