K-Os - Exit
Upon the first couple of listens of Exit I had no idea that K-os was indeed from Canada. What a great discovery that hip-hop this good is coming from within our borders. Sure, we have Swollen Members and Moka Only (and a few others) but the hip hop scene is a little scarce this side of the 49th. K-os raps with a smooth flow that is rarely heard these days. The production on Exit is top notch as well. K-os proves to be a very diverse artist as well. There are some heavy duty hip hop tracks, smooth R&B styled hip hop (“Call Me), and then he dives right into dub style reggae (“Superstar Pt. 1). It’s rare that I am taken right away with a hip-hop album in its entirety. Usually it’s that case of a couple of songs really catching my ear but K-os has managed to make an entire listenable album that really soothes the soul. While more hardcore rap fans may find this a little weak, R&B fans will even take comfort in K-os’ smooth style. This is a very fine album and one that I am pleased to say is Canadian.
