Without doubt this was the best song on Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms" album. That album, despite its worldwide smash hit status did nothing for me except serve to confirm that Dire Straits, a band who I had long ago seen in dingy clubs in Bristol, had just become the latest member of the boring stadium rockers club. A slower paced song than many on the album, it lamented the passage of time, and had some guitar lines in it which were much more characteristic of the early Dire Straits which I far and away preferred. After this, Dire Straits went away for a few years and by the time they came back they had sunk into near obscurity. I have to say I did not miss at all the sort of band they had become.
