Powerful gospel blues citing the Book of Revelation and delivered in one of the gruffest growliest voices you have ever heard on a blues song. Blind Willie Johnson would make most death metal vocalists turn in their graves. Yet the call and refrain is matched by a sweet female voice (probably his wife, Willie B. Harris) which offsets Johnson's deep growl. "John the Revelator" was one of the best examples of blues gospel crossovers there is and ranks alongside anything that Son House ever did. Sadly, this was Johnson's last ever release. After this recording session, he never recorded or released anything again.
