Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound and image. There's something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever "it" is - they all seem to have "it".
Today I listened to the latest CD from New York's own Planetary Nights entitled Today Aint' Too Late (2012) This band features R.J McSweeney on guitar and vocals. Venturing to the world wide web I see that he has been around for some time. From start to finish this CD from McSweeney and company is very pleasurable. It has a vintage Rock flair to it and even dabbles in classic Jam Band, and Rock. Any fans of any of these musical styles will enjoy this latest release from Planetary Nights. It's clearly marketed for those who like a male singer with a mystique of say a Greg Khin Band, Tommy Tutone and Bruce Springsteen. I get the impression McSweeney and company are "rolling with what they know" as performers. In other words he hits the mark remarkably well just being who he is. Favorite tracks include (Embers), (Ghosts in my Mind), and the title track. All tracks have an amazing feel. Within each one of these compositions McSweeney finds his soul and delivers musical mojo. His band is spot on and just makes the whole CD even more enjoyable. Some songs even have a R&B flavor to them. The overall vibe is upbeat and positive.
I see McSweeney as a veteran rocker. This is an impressive snapshot of music showcasing who he is as an artist, singer and songwriter - and what he has made in the beloved memory of all things Classic Rock. In close most famous artists out there have "it" I'm not so sure what it but "Planetary Nights" featureing R.J. McSweeney has whatever "it" is.
