Inextricably linked in my mind, and probably with the minds of a lot of other people, with the sight of Isabella Rosselini twirling around and Dennis Hopper leering on while breathing helium (or whatever) through a mask, "Blue Velvet" was originally released in 1963 and then over two decades later to cash in on the film of the same name.
Even without the associations with the film, the song has an eerie feel - the way Vinton sings those words blue velvet - and a strange production which makes it sound as if it was recorded in lavatory with the band playing in the cellar next door. Truly, they dont make 'em like this any more.
