Lene Lovich always suffered from a comparison with Kate Bush. Yet their material was starkly different. Lovich was a child of the new wave, whereas Bush looked back to folk and earlier musical forms in many ways. That "Lucky Number" became a hit in the UK just goes to show how far punk rock had shattered the predictable calm of the singles charts. Her bizarre appearance and her squeaky off-key shrieking made her a sensation - but a short lived one.
"Lucky Number" was a danceable track which was sufficiently off-centre to be interesting but not so weird as to be off-putting. This is perhaps how pop music should have sounded - would have sounded - if the major record lables had not managed to reinsert their claws into popular music.
