The Wake had been around for a long time before they signed to Sarah Records in the late eighties. Undoubtedly their best release, " Major John" was a dig at then UK Primer Minister, John Major (obviously, duh), but the reverse is far better. "Lousy Pop Group" is about going to some stadium to see some band who you don't want Eric Clapton, Elton John and Dire Straits get name-checked as artists the Wake hate. And then, in a straight voice, talking of the gig, the Wake sing perfectly sincerely

Excellent stuff. Another chorus you can sing along to when some dreary band long past their sell-by date comes to your town - and no I am not going to mention the Red Hot Chili Peppers!
