Wow, I'm impressed! The Shiv seem to have come across a new breed of post-rock that combines elements of all cool bands like Modest Mouse and Sebadoh, not to mention The Jam and The Pixies. They come our way from Joliet, Illinois, not really known for their music scene but The Shiv are out to change that. What they have created on Short Order Crook is nothing short of brilliant. Loping along at times like a wounded animal only to spring upon it's prey unsuspectingly. They use a bit of shoegazer style guitars but when it's all over it would be unjust in saying that their just a shoegazer band. For instance, the title track, "Short Order Crook", starts out similar to that of a Folk Implosion song but by the end of it they have ended up with a Jam like groove going on. Great stuff.
