"What Comes After" was the sole release from Lancaster based Kill Devil Hills. I have been unable to trace what happened to them after this and have no idea of their association, if any, with the town of the same name in North Carolina. The single was released on an obscure local label and never got disseminated much beyond the north west. It sounds a mixture of jangle pop and post-punk and is reminiscent in some ways of Lowlife who also mixed the same sounds. The difference is that this is clearer and perhaps less innovative.
This is one of those songs that I feel ambivalent about, and without any identifiable reason. Likeable though it is, I get the feeling the band were trying for a more American sound almost as if they wanted to skip the UK and head across the pond. Strange really, for there seems no reason for me to adopt such a stance towards what is after all a rather agreeable song.
