Tom Petty sure had some staying power. Yet throughout his long career, I only delved occasionally into his work. "Learning to Fly" was, however, too good to pass up on. Sounding distinctly like Bob Dylan and perhaps presaging his other work with the Travelling Wilburys, this has the sort of catchy hook which was a feature of his best work. It manages to fit in with the early nineties sound in the same way that his other work I like had managed to fit in with the decade it was released. I suppose that is one reason why the man has such staying power.
