Sharks and Minnows may not be the next big radio band but this is one group that is going to make a splash in the indie music scene. They had an EP out a couple of years ago that was superb and now they are following it up with their debut full-length album entitled Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board. Sharks and Minnows start up right where they left off with Julie et Cetera with chunky guitars and beautiful vocal harmonies. There is many a punk and emo influence at work with this threesome but somehow they manage to package it differently and end up more in the rock arena than anything. There is a mellow side to Sharks and Minnows too. Check out “High A.M. for proof of this. But the song that gets me is “Typhoid Mary with its beautiful intro and smooth transition to the chorus. The one hurdle that these guys have to get over is their production issue. Light as a Feather could do with a decent mastering job. It’s not as full sounding as it should be. If Sharks and Minnows don’t get you upon first listen then you have to try at least once more. This is a band that is begging to be noticed.
