I am not a great fan of the tendency of some bands to do seemingly endless remixes of the same song. Frankie Goes to Hollywood did it in the eighties and put out different remixes as different 12 inch singles, largely because their record company wanted to cash in. Big Country did it with several of their singles, which they reissued in extended and remixed versions on 12 inch usually better than the original. So when I discovered that Brooklyn-based synth pop outfit Hundred in the Hands had put no less than four different mixes of "Dressed in Dresden" on this single my heart sank.
In truth, I rather went off this sort of music by the end of the eighties, but "Dressed in Dresden" was one of those occasions when I allowed myself a bit of musical nostalgia for those days. As it runs at (according to the sleeve) 154 bpm, that is a good deal quicker than the usual tempo for this sort of music. Consequently, it has probably placed itself beyond the pale as regards commercial radio and most DJs. But I have to say, the opening version of this is good enough to keep you interested, even if by the third version you find youself bored.
