After Tommy Guerrero garnered all the praise for his last full-length album, A Little Bit of Somethin’, he was probably unsure of the direction that he should take. So he decides to hit the fans with one of the funkiest EP’s to hit the market as of late. Yes, unfortunately Junk Collector is only an EP but I would highly recommend running out and finding it at your local record store. Tommy is in fine form here taking on pretty much all musical duties with all imaginable instruments. I don’t know where the guy had time to learn all of the instruments while on tour with the Bones Brigade but he is fly. My favorite track on the 5 song album is “Organism with an obscured vocal running along side some of the grooviest beats to come out of my speakers. It’s not all funk though. “Sea Sick is more of a somber effort but the beats are still there. Guerrero goes back a ways and catches up with fellow pro-skater Mark Gonzales to do up the cover for Junk Collector. This is a fine use for that $10 sitting in your wallet. It’s an EP but repeated listens are necessary for full enjoyment.
