The Co-Dependents is sort of a Calgary super-group; a whose who in the roots scene in the area. Lead by the infamous Billy Cowsill (of the Cowsills), the Co-Dependents go for a trip down nostalgia lane with some of their favorite swinging country and rockabilly tracks and also manage to fit in a few of their own tracks for good measure. The band also has Steve Pineo, another Calgary scenester that has been playing the clubs for quite sometime. Hell, he’s even opened up for the likes of Blue Rodeo. Guitar extraordinaire, Tim Leacock takes a step back from his National Dust gig and plays the bass but his guitar skills still manage to shine through. The band is rounded out with Ross Watson who has been keeping rhythm for numerous Calgary bands like National Dust and Jenny Allen. This line-up makes up one of the finest our city has seen in ages. And just check out some of the songs they choose to do: “All Shook Up, “That’s All Right, Dylan’s “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight, the Stones “Out of Time, and a left fielder thrown in for good measure with “Secret Agent Man. The scary thing with this live album is that the various originals they add to the mix blend in seamlessly (see Steve’s “Too Bad For Me as an example). I have heard some people say that the Calgary music scene is a bit dry right now. I would advise those people to venture over to Megatunes to pick up a copy of Co-Dependents just to shut them up.
