It is a serious pity that the White Stripes are so heavily hyped. If they were not, they might feel the need to enhance their reputation by producing more stuff like "7 Nation Army". The rest of the stuff they do is generally not to my liking, being a sort of music-by-numbers garage rock revival and lacking originality. But this one has something else - a glorious riff. Yet, in truth, there is not much else to the song apart from that riff. But why complain? Many of the garage era precursors of the White Stripes such as the Monks, Question Mark and the Mysterians and even the Sonics managed to make great music using simple riffs and chord progressions. And so, I suppose I can keep hoping that the White Stripes can eventually come up with an album full of material of this quality which would justify the laudatory adulation heaped upon them.
