Perhaps the true precursor of all that was Britpop, Ian Broudie's Lightning Seeds began their recording career with this single. Dominated by a repetitive and potentially irritating synthesizer line, this song is as delightful and its title. Pure pop pleasure, it is one of those melodies which should bring a cheer to even the most miserable face, brighten the darkest day and have you humming along if you can't recall the words, and singing with the same joy as that in which the song was recorded. You cannot but help be cheered by this. OK, I will agree, it is not the most musically challenging number you will ever hear in your life, but does that matter? Isn't "Pure" what pop should really all be about?
