Tom Robinson was frequently lumped in with the punks, though to be truthful, he had more depth than that. A pioneer, along with the long forgotten Elton Motello, of the gay rights movement in popular music, in the brashness of punk, Robinson found his ideal vehicle. As the social fabric of the country began to fall apart in the face of relentless political and economic incompetence, the punks provided the perfect way of getting his message across.
"2-4-6-8 Motorway" was a fantastic song for the times, though it has really dated now. A sing-along refrain which anyone could remember, a foot-stomping beat and yet slower than the average punk track, this contained enough get up and go to thrill all but the most jaded.
