A few weeks back I got a chance to have a coffee and briefly chat with upcoming producer / band member DC2.0 from The Sugarwaves, while he was grabbing supplies and refueling his engine during a long studio session in Los Angeles. At the time of our meeting, he explained that he was knee-deep in several new tracks and promised to get me some music before the end of the month or ASAP and that I wouldn't be disappointed.

Jumping ahead to the present, this morning his promise was fulfilled, and he send me a link to some new music for my ready and waiting ears. I wasn't exactly clear what I was going to be listening to since his description of The Sugarwaves was so vague and aloof.
He said, " its a duo, its underground, its experimental and its electronic," with a shrug. OK, so thats what I have to go on. I click on the link and swoosh, a warm blanket of dreaminess hits me like a heatwave. What is this? I am not too sure, but like a junkie, I want more. NOW!!!

The Sugarwaves are a bit hard to define ( he was right ) since they pull from a few directions to make their tracks. Yep, I can hear a dream pop / post rock influence no doubt about it, I understand the ambient Eno electronic element and then comes the beats which are lo-fi hip hop and border on minimalistic while female vocalist Mar gently and angelically glides over the mix. To call it beautiful is a bit trite and corny but The Sugarwaves are just that, beautiful, electronic ambient, lo-fi dream pop.

For a limited time according to the band, downloads are free from http://www.facebook.com/thesugarwaves or http://soundcloud.com/thesugarwaves. I strongly recommend this to anyone who likes Cocteau Twins or the Cranes, it will be just what the doctor order.
