Although it seems that Paul Burch's gang is ripe pickings for a big Americana hit it appears that he is much happier sitting back and enjoying the comfort of eing able to play with a bunch of friends. Unlike most Nashville country bands that are mostly made up of hired musicians, the WPA Ballclub is not much more than Paul's close personal friends. Don't think that they aren't good musicians because this album would stand up against any of the Nashville mainstays. Lambchop mainstay, Paul Niehaus, joins the band again (Paul is sometimes found fitting into Lambchop on occasion). All but 1 track on Blue Notes are Burch originals and fine tracks at that. This really is some of the finest country that you will find these days. Now that Burch is on a recognizable label he might get the respet due.
