"Live and Let Die" was released as a single due to it being the signature tune to the James Bond movie of the same name. As a result, it was pretty much guaranteed being a hit. Yet for all that, it is still a worthy song in its own right, and this from someone who is not a great fan of Wings, or indeed any of the solo work of ex-Beatles.
For a start, it has a quiet-loud-quiet format and a more rocked up sound to it than the work off McCartney's earlier albums, and is even backed by a full strings arrangement. Ideal for a Bond movie, but not bland enough to be forgotten, it remains one of the better efforts of Wings or McCartney's later solo career. Guns n Roses murdered it some years later.
