The first track on Brand New Year sounds like it was stolen from an old ZZ Top record. Bluesy but still rock and roll. Second track "Alone in bad company" could easily be a John Hiatt song. Two tracks in and you know your in for a ride. After the Rockets were abrubtly dropped from Atlantic records they pulled themselves together and released an album for Doolittle called "Leftovers". Once they were composed again they recorded what could be the finest album of their career. This album may be a bit heavier than some of the others in the No Depression vein but it still has that cool southern feeling.
