In between being created as Johnny and the Self Abusers and metamorphosing into the unintentionally self-parodying U3, Simple Minds were a band worth listening to. This track was a superb example of what they could have done. Had this typified more of their output they might have had the success that Jim Kerr always craved. The song has a driving rhythm of a single snare drum hit repetitively, a shimmering guitar line and a somewhat morose and cynical look at life the other side of the pond. This is the way I will remember Simple Minds as a band with some originality and value - and not as the U2 wannabes they eventually mutated into.
