Bonnie Billy is yet another moniker for Will Oldham and it’s really not that far off from what he does as Bonnie Prince Billy. Slight adjustment in name but that’s what we have come to expect from Will. This little 6-song EP is very crafty as all of the songs are covers, and most of them are songs that you would not expect from Will. Some are very obscure like John Phillips’ “Someone’s Sleeping, Reggae artist John Holt’s “Strange Things, and the newer group The Renderers’ “A Dream of the Sea. He also chooses PJ Harvey’s “Sweeter than Anything, “Same Love That Made Me Laugh by Bill Withers and the weirdest one of the bunch Tim McGraw’s “Just to see you smile. Will works his mysterious magic on these songs and turns them into his own. He has a talent and is able to use it on other peoples music as well as his own. Seek this EP out on Temporary Residence.
