Two California hardcore bands share a quick four song EP, and in the whiplash span of ten minutes or less, each leaves a few bruises. First up is San Francisco's Skin Like Iron. They kick things off with "Disappear," which reaches a majestic, Husker-y peak and never comes down. In comparison, "The Parade" disappoints, coming across with full on rage until an ill-advised melodic interlude mid way bogs it down.
Easing up is not in the vocabulary of Nails. The LA band offers two tracks, "Annihilation" and "Cry Wolf," that are both completely relentless and stripped to the bone.
This is a small teaser for what both bands are capable of, and that is quite a lot. As is the case with most self-releases these days, this split EP is a limited edition of about 1000. Both Nails and Skin Like Iron are sweaty, honest, killer bands worth keeping an eye on. A quick search will find lead to goodies for both, and anything you can find is worth hitting up.
